Job Description

The Water Quality Inspector is responsible for collection of bacteriological and chemical samples to monitor the drinking water distribution system. Performs hydrant flushing along with chemical analysis. Responds to customer drinking water complaints and provides customer service while problem solving. Performs equipment maintenance and calibrations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Collect water supply samples and transport them for laboratory analysis of bacteriological content.
  • Document chemical and physical parameters of water quality from each sampling site through written and electronic means.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on monitoring equipment and sampling infrastructure.•Conduct daily calibrations on instruments.
  • Respond to water quality complaints or issues, document findings and close out 3-1-ls.
  • Coordinate and complete sample collection for residents, schools, and daycares for Lead and Copper Rule Compliance.
  • Deliver professional internal/external customer service.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • At least one (1) year of experience in customer service, inspections, or water/wastewater related activities. 

Valid Licenses and Certifications

Valid Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained 6 months prior to employment.

  • Obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator License within one (1) year.


As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.


Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.


Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
